5Great Idea  May 21, 2008
Wonderful idea! You can pick a page or 2 a day and in no time you are learning Hiragana. Each page is short, graphic and catches your attention. It is also small and thin enough to slide into your backpack so you can get a mini lesson in anytime you want. I think it's a great way to begin learning Japanese. I got this book together with Jimi's Book of Katakana for a 1 , 2 punch.

5Wonderful introduction!  Mar 22, 2008
Brightly colored, interesting information, easy presentation... this book has everything a beginner needs! I am so glad I purchased it, and I can't speak highly enough about it!

4see the twin recension about the katakana method ( is exactly all the same)  Mar 20, 2008
Nothing to say, provided you are an 8 years old japanese living abroad you will learn in no time kana with these two books.
A must for collectionism, there is something better if you are just interestd to loearn kana in no time ( try remembering the kana by Heisig).
Four star instead of five, because there are plenty of methods for learning hiragana, muich easier than katakana, as a matter of fact ( every handbook teaches you hiragana in virtually no time, letter are not so monotonous as katakana letters are).

5This book makes learning hiragana easy and fun, fun, fun!  Feb 16, 2008
I use this book all the time to review my hiragana. I can now read most hiragana almost as fast as the Roman alphabet. I really like the fact that it shows the correct brush stroke order for writing the characters. It is also useful for learning some basic vocabulary words (including pronunciation) and a little bit about Japanese culture. I am looking forward to getting the book on katakana next. It would make a perfect book for a sixth grade through high school student looking to learn on their own or supplement a formal education but it is fun for adults as well.

5Great beginner book for kids  Feb 14, 2008
My six-year-old is using this book to teach herself some Japanese. The learning techniques in this book are effective, fun and easy to follow. Bits of Japanese culture are incorporated into the lessons. More emphasis could have been put on the pronunciation guide -- we keep referring back to this tiny paragraph in the beginning of the book. Overall, a great way to get started in learning the language, especially for kids.
